Brooklyn Technical School is a public specialized high school in New York City, located in the Fort Greene neighborhood in Brooklyn. According to Niche, one of the top-rated high schools in the borough, Brooklyn Tech ranks 12th among the best public high schools in New York City. In addition, it is one of the nine specialized high schools in the city.
Brooklyn Tech students must select a primary course of study as a precursor to their college education. Academic progression at Brooklyn Tech works on a point system, where students with the highest GPAs can choose their first choice of majors, a set of elective courses offered during their last two years. Upon graduation, students can expect to be well-versed in the fundamental principles of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and have a basic understanding of the global environment, current events, and liberal art disciplines.
Community and Culture
Students are encouraged to dedicate their time and effort to the school through club participation, team involvement, or participation in school-related events. Brooklyn Tech believes in unlocking students’ entire academic potential. It does so by implementing a service system where students must volunteer a minimum of hours at an external organization or establishment. In preparation for college, Brooklyn Tech provides an individual score report and free SAT study plan tailored to test scores. This personalized online plan is a core focus for juniors and helps students address areas needing improvement. In addition, Brooklyn Tech’s upper class takes AP or honors courses for college credit to further achieve their intended academic goals.
